SALIVA & URINE DRUG TESTING
Until recently, the most common method of drug testing by employment in the workplace has been via blood. This procedure is intrusive and can cause disruption within the workplace. As a result of this, many businesses have elected not to implement drug and alcohol testing as part of their Occupational Health & Safety program. Fortunately, new technology is now available that can speed up the drug and alcohol testing process, resulting in minimal "DOWN TIME" for employees. Saliva and urine drug testing requires only a small sample of saliva or urine to test for and identify the recent use of drugs, avoiding the need for blood collection devices or needles.
ADVANTAGES OF A SALIVA OR URINE DRUG TEST
They are easy and non intrusive for employees. They provide accurate results within minutes. They identify recent exposure to drugs in contrast to blood, which shows a history of drug use. Observed sample collections eliminates the risk of samples being diluted, substituted or adulterated. The testing process is straightforward and can be conducted at the employees place of employment, causing minimal disruption in the workplace. Laboratory confirmation of presumptive positive results are conducted on the saliva or urine sample, avoiding the need for employees to provide a separate blood sample for analysis.
CONDUCTING SALIVA & URINE DRUG SCREENING TESTS
The testing process is conducted by an accredited Corrsafe technician using a mouth swab or urine cup to collect a saliva or urine sample that is analysed by the drug detection system.
DETECTED DRUGS
The following groups of drugs can be detected by drug detection system, utilising the one saliva or urine sample. Cannabis, delta 9 THC. Opiates, codeine, heroin. Amphetamines, stimulants. Cocaine. Benzodiazapines, sedatives, relaxants. Methamphetamines, MDMA, ecstasy, ice, speed.
ACCURATE DRUG TESTS
Drug detection systems minimise user error and removes subjectivity from the diagnoses, by accurately timing the incubation period, interpreting and then storing the results. These results are displayed on the device, which can then be photocopied. Numerous studies have demonstrated the excellence of drug detection systems, which are currently being used by police and other services worldwide.
RESPONSIBLITIES AS AN EMPLOYER
As an employer it is your "DUTY OF CARE" to provide a safe working environment for all employees, contractors and visitors. Implementation of structured drug and alcohol programs with mandatory drug testing will assist with this responsibility.
DRUG & ALCOHOL TESTING CAN SAVE YOUR BUSINESS MONEY
By reducing the risk of potential accidents in the workplace, your business can minimise the costs that are incurred in replacing injured staff ie. on going medical costs, the employment of temporary replacement staff, WorkCover, workers compensation liabilities etc.
FREQUENCY OF DRUG & ALCOHOL TESTING
If you decide to introduce mandatory drug and alcohol tests, Corrsafe highly recommends random drug and alcohol testing be conducted on a regular basis. This creates a "CLIMATE OF RISK" factor, which acts as a deterrent to potential drug and alcohol users.
